Progams and Screenings

Reiki

Community CancerCare offers FREE Reiki sessions to anyone coping with cancer, as well as their caregivers. Please call Maria Frassinelli-Sierra, L.C.S.W., at 860-272-2929 for information or to schedule a session.


American Cancer Society Look Good, Feel Better Program

Women coping with hair loss, dry skin and fatigue as a result of either radiation or chemotherapy treatments are invited to participated in this special program sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS). A trained cosmetologist works with participants to teach them about various makeup techniques, skin care and wig styles. The program is available to any woman going through treatment. This is an enjoyable activity, which boosts women's confidence during a difficult time. Support Groups

Breast Cancer Support Group

A Breast Cancer Support Group meets the first Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Community CancerCareConference Room. This is a safe place to express concerns, discuss the many issues related to breast cancer, share ideas on coping and surviving, and give and receive support from others who share similar experiences.

There is no fee to attend the Breast Cancer Support Group, but pre-registration is required. To register, please call Maria Frassinelli Sierra, L.C.S.W., at 860-272-2929.


Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma Support Group

A Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma Support Group, sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, meets the third Tuesday of each month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Community CancerCareConference Room. Dinner is provided. There is no fee to attend, but pre-registration is required. To register, please call Maria Frassinelli Sierra, L.C.S.W., at 860-272-2929.



Childbirth Education Classes

Childbirth Ed - "Preparing for Childbirth"

Taught by a Licensed Certified Childbirth Educator, this two-day seminar is intended to help parents-to-be enjoy a more positive and relaxed childbirth experience. The series covers relaxation breathing, labor and delivery physiology, parenting techniques and more. A tour of Johnson Memorial Hospital's Family Birth Suites at the Nirenberg Center for Women & Infants is also available. Family Birth Suites Tours

Free tours of Family Birth Suites at the Nirenberg Center for Women & Infants give participants the opportunity to view our lovely accommodations and learn more about the many services we offer for mothers, babies and families. Sibling Class

Family Birth Suites' free Sibling Class is conducted by an experienced obstetrics nurse. The class teaches children of expectant couples ways to help their parents with baby care at home and strives to alleviate feelings of sibling rivalry.
