Johnson Memorial Hospital (JMH) - initially known as the Cyril and Julia C. Johnson Memorial Hospital - first opened its doors to the community on April 21, 1912. During the first year, 160 patients were admitted and 36 operations performed. It was located on East Street in the Stafford Springs borough. The hospital remained at this location until 1975, at which time it moved to its current location on Route 190 in Stafford Springs.
Today, JMH operates as a 92-bed, acute-care facility in Stafford Springs. At its Stafford Springs campus, JMH offers medical/surgical and intensive care, as well as cardiology services, diagnostic imaging, emergency services, laboratory and pathology services, obstetrics, surgery, physical therapy and rehabilitation, and pulmonary medicine. The hospital has off-site centers and departments in nearby towns. The Johnson Memorial Cancer Center, located on the hospital's Enfield campus, features the brand new Karen Davis Krzynowek Infusion Center and radiation therapy services owned and operated by Community CancerCare, a unique partnership of local hospitals, including JMH. The hospital's outpatient surgery, a laboratory draw station, and JMH Regional Diagnostic Imaging Center are within the Johnson Surgery and Outpatient Services Center, which is also on JMH's Enfield campus. JMH's Sleep Center, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Outpatient Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and an additional laboratory draw station are also located in Enfield. The Advanced Wound Center is expected to open on JMH's Enfield campus this spring. In collaboration with Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN) and Windham Hospital, JMH offers state-of-the-art imaging technologies at Tolland Imaging Center.
JMH's 100th Anniversary Campaign will run throughout 2012 and is devoted to enhancing the hospital's operating suites, radiology and nursing equipment.
